The Instrument Rating enables the I/R qualified pilot to
fly in controlled airspace, airways and use radio aids for
procedural approaches and let downs which is required of
professional pilots. It is the most demanding rating requiring
a high standard of pilot skill and competence, but at the same
time extremely satisfying once this standard has been
achieved. The IR is certainly the most important and demanding
qualification in the aviation world as all charter, air taxi
and airlines require that their pilots are I/R training and
qualified
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must hold a PPL(A) with a Night
Qualification / Rating or a CPL(A) and shall have completed at
least 50 hours cross country flight time as pilot in
command.
NOTES RELATIVE TO I/R TRAINING
A student will need to have passed the ATPL Theoretical
Knowledge examinations with an approved organisation before
being allowed to undertake the I/R test. The Instrument Rating
training needs to be completed in one continuous course of
training.
JAR Approved Multi Engine I/R for CPL(A) Holders
CPL(A) holders are required to undertake a 50 hour course
for the Instrument Rating.
JAR Approved Multi Engine I/R
Students not holding a CPL(A) are required to undertake a
55 hour course for the Instrument Rating.
